What is Qurbani ?
Cow For Qurbani |
What is Qurbani / Qurban ?. "Establish prayer (Salaah) and sacrifice/Qurbani
(an-Nahr)." (Surat al-Kauthar: 2). According to the majority of Qur'anic
commentators such as Ibn Abbas, Ali ibn Abi Talib, and also others, this verse
is interpreted "Sacrifice/Qurbani on Eid al-Adha (yaumun Nahr)".
Sacrifice slaughter when the Eid al-Adha is called
al-udhhiyah, according to the time of the worship. So from this meaning, he is
an animal slaughtered to draw closer to Allah SWT, carried out on the day
an-Nahr (Eid al-Adha) with certain conditions.
From this definition, then not included in al-udhhiyyah are
animals slaughtered not to draw closer to Allah (such as to be eaten, on sale, or
to entertain guests). Likewise, what is not included in al-udhhiyyah is animals
slaughtered outside the day of tasyrik (10-13 Dhu al-Hijjah) even to draw
closer to Allah. Likewise what is not included in al-udhhiyyah is animals for
akikah and al-hadyu that are slaughtered in Mecca.
Why do you have to sacrifice (Qurbani)?
First, as an expression of gratitude to God for the
blessings of life given. Second, revive the teachings of the Prophet Ibrahim,
the khalilullah (lover of Allah), at which time Allah ordered him to slaughter
his beloved son as a ransom namely Ismail AS on the day of an-Nahr (Eid
al-Adha).
Third, so that every believer remembers the patience of the
Prophet Ibrahim and Isma'il AS, in terms of obedience and love for Him.
Sacrifice like this that causes the release of trials, so Isma'il also turned
into a sheep. If every believer remembers this story, they should imitate in
being patient when obeying Allah, and they should prioritize the love of God
over their passions and lusts.

Qurbani / Qurban worship must be accompanied by sincerity and piety.
The flesh and blood of our sacrificial animals will not reach Him at all if
they are not accompanied by piety and sincerity. "The camel's flesh and
blood cannot reach (the pleasure of) Allah, but it is your piety that can
attain it." (Surat al-Hajj: 37).
People who can sacrifice but not sacrifice, the law makruh.
"Whoever has the ability but he does not sacrifice, then he must never
come to our place of prayer." (Narrated by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and al-Hakim,
from Abu Hurairah RA). A goat applies to one person. While a camel or cow,
maybe together for seven people (Muslim HR).
More importantly, one person sacrifices one camel or cow. In
one family (house), no matter how large the family is, it is recommended that a
personal sacrifice a goat. That is sufficient and the symbol of Islam has been
upheld, even though only one person gets the reward, namely the sacrifice
itself. "It is recommended for every family to slaughter a sacrifice every
year." (Narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, An Nasa'i, and Ibn Majah).
After the animal is slaughtered, the handling of sacrificial
animals (hatchery and enumeration) should only be done after the animal is
believed to have died. The law makruh skinning animals before breathing out and
blood flow stop (al-Jabari, 1994). In terms of facts, animals that have been
slaughtered but have not yet died their muscles, are contracting due to stress.
If in such conditions the hardship and cutting are done, the meat will be tough
or not soft. While animals that have died their muscles will experience
relaxation so that the meat is tender.
May Allah make it easier for us to carry out this noble
worship and accept each of our righteous deeds, including our sacrifice
(Qurbani)
